Camp Rotary C.O.P.E. Program
COPE is truly a Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience! You do not have to be an athlete to participate; the course is not beyond the reach of anyone in average physical condition, but every event poses a challenge. The full COPE program is designed for youth age 13 and above and adults. While aimed primarily at Scouts, attempting the events provides benefits for everyone.
Program - the Lake Huron Area Council of the BSA offers a challenge course program at Camp Rotary that includes
Initiative Games - warm-ups, problem solving, teamwork, communication, and decision making games conducted on flat ground.
Low Course - low level events utilizing ground based apparatus and requiring more complex problem solving, teamwork, communications, and decision making.
High Course & Zip Line - high level events utilizing suspended apparatus approximately 15 feet above the ground. Camp Rotary also features a 755' Zip Line. Some of these events require the physical strength and stamina anticipated in normally healthy teens. While High Course events are intended to challenge the individual, success depends largely upon teamwork.
Tower - a climbing/rappelling tower, 32 feet high, with four climbing courses of increasing challenge and difficulty and a rappelling wall. While far less physically challenging than the climbing walls, most participants find attempting the rappelling wall to be the greater achievement.
The events are attempted beginning with those of lower difficulty, and participants are asked to safely complete these before continuing on to the more mentally and physically challenging and complex events. To ensure safety and maximum benefit, BSA trained instructors will guide your unit or team through each event. Challenge is always by choice, but team members are asked to enthusiastically support their teammates and participate in the safe operation of each event.
Registration - contact Brad Murray, Camp Director, at or . Registrations are taken on a first-come-first-served basis. Groups of 12 work best, and each event should be scheduled for no less than 2 hours. Groups will work individually. There is room on the Low Course for four 12 member teams. On the Tower and High Course two 12 member teams may operate as one if the period is extended to three hours. COPE events are available most Saturdays from September through May.
